Corporate Plan Review

McKinlay Shire Council has undertaken an in-house review of the Corporate Plan 2025-2030 following the recent adoption of the new Economic Development Strategy at the January 2025 Ordinary Council Meeting.

During the development of the Economic Development Strategy, we surveyed the local community and received 33 Business Responses and 100 Community Responses and ran a community consultation workshop on 13th May 2024. We utilized those responses in reviewing the Strategies in the Corporate Plan, there are many synergies in the questions and responses. We thank those community members who participated in the survey and the workshop for the Economic Development Strategy as those responses were easily picked up for this review without the need to survey everyone again, we were very conscience of not over surveying our community.

Our Corporate Plan 2025-2030 is now more strategically focused and less aligned with the day-to-day delivery of Council services. McKinlay Shire is on cusp of significant economic and demographic transformation. Strategic planning and investment in infrastructure, housing, and community services will be crucial to harness the benefits of upcoming developments and to foster a thriving, sustainable community.

Over the next 5 to 10 years, McKinlay Shire is poised to experience notable economic and demographic changes, primarily influenced by developments in the mining and agriculture sectors. While our Corporate Plan is focused on a five-year horizon we wish to continue with longer term planning.

We are very keen to continue to look at a ten-year horizon in our planning and as such will be undertaking a major review of the Community Plan which is due to expire in 2026. We will be seeking community input into the development of the new Community Plan and a series of meetings and other engagement opportunities will be arranged toward the end of 2025 and into early 2026. While there is no legislative requirement for Council to have a longer-term plan it is important to have that longer -term Strategy to assist with planning.

We are keen, however, on your input and there is the opportunity to provide your feedback on our new Draft Corporate Plan 2025-2030, we seek input from the community on how we went with the drafting of the new Strategies in the Draft Corporate Plan 2025-2030. Comments will be open for two weeks to provide comments and input into the Draft Plan before it is formally adopted by the Council at the May 2025 meeting. Please provide any feedback and comments to Mark Crawley via email mark.crawley@mckinlay.qld.gov.au you can also send Mark an email if you have any questions you would like more information on or clarification.
